eGroup March Forum - the RENT.COM.AU story by Founder and CEO Mark Woschnak!

For our March forum we are ecstatic to have Mark Woschnak as our presenter!

Fascinated by innovation and harnessing ideas from concept to delivery, Mark has been involved in the evolution of online and start-up businesses for more than 20 years.  After graduating with a Bachelor of Business from Curtin University in Marketing and Finance, he then completed an executive management program with Unisys. He later obtained a real estate license in Sydney and became a 10-year associate of the Australian Property Institute.

He has also managed successful real estate and finance businesses, winning multiple awards, including Agency of the Year.  In the mid-90s, he developed RealWeb, a real estate online service and launched it with Telstra in 1997, pioneering the first range of Mobile Information Services used by Vodafone, Macquarie and LINK. In the 1990’s, his company InfoWave was one of Australia’s first national information, SMS and content service providers that delivered news, sport, stock market, weather and horoscope services to our mobile phones and partnered with the likes of Reuters, AAP and the Bureau of Meteorology.

In 2006, Mark returned to his hometown of Perth to focus on the development of rent.com.au after identifying a gap in the rental property marketplace as renters were finding the whole process frustrating. Starting out as a one man band 8 years ago, Rent.com.au has become the # 1 portal dedicated to rental properties. It listed on the ASX in June 2015 and has raised more than $18 million in capital, attracts more than 600,000 unique site visitors per month and employs over 60 staff.

Inspired by the creative talent and spirit of entrepreneurialism here in WA, Mark worked with Charlie Gunningham and a few other Perth entrepreneurs to establish eGroup, holding the role of eGroup Chairman for two years. Mark has 25 years’ experience in real estate, digital publishing and classifieds services and has contributed to industry publications, national industry conferences and media commentary such as: Money Magazine, BRW, SOLD, Your Investment Property, Australian Property Investor, Elite Property Manager and has provided industry insight for national TV including “The Money Show” and “A Current Affair”.

He is an experienced private and public company director and is also a mentor and capital advisor to start-ups.  Born in Tanzania, he moved to Australia at the age of eight and attended school and university in Perth. Since his early 20s, he has travelled extensively and sailed many parts of the world. His leadership style is described as ‘pioneering’ and a ‘visual mathematician’, both creative yet focused on building blocks whilst enjoying strategic challenges and creating positive change.
